Why is Enamel so Important?

Posted on 10/10/2022 by Watermark Dentistry
Why is Enamel so Important?Enamel is one of the strongest substances in the human body. It needs to be, to effectively protect the soft, sensitive interior of the tooth and allow us to eat all those yummy foods we enjoy eating. Think about how the pressure our teeth are under. The pressure we apply to them with every bite we take is incredible.

Over time, the enamel on our teeth can be naturally worn away. Therefore, how can we slow the progress and protect our tooth enamel? It is easier than you think. Some of the easiest ways to do that are to brush and floss twice a day, go to the dentist for cleanings and examinations, avoid drinking acidic beverages and foods

When we brush and floss, we remove the bacteria from our teeth and gums. If we skip brushing and flossing, it allows the bacteria to build up. When it builds it up, it can easily damage the enamel by slowly eating it away.

Going to the dentist for cleanings and exams allows professional staff the ability to deep clean above and below the gumline where people cannot reach. It also allows analysis of any problem areas to take steps to help protect the enamel.

Our tooth enamel can be greatly affected by what we eat and drink. When we eat foods with acidic content, it can damage the enamel. The same goes for drinking acidic beverages like soda.

In Conclusion

I know it sounds like no fun for anybody, but the key is moderation. What I mean by that is if you are a soda drinker or enjoy acidic fruits and other foods, just don't overdo it. Also, when you are ingesting those things, it's important to brush your teeth as soon as possible afterward.
